2023 Season Updates

Dear Harlequin Supporter,

First, we would like to take this opportunity to announce that the production previously announced as TOP SECRET can now be revealed! It is Every Brilliant Thing, a one-person production directed by Aaron Lamb, starring Eleise Moore! A little about Every Brilliant Thing

The color yellow. Sunsets. Things with stripes. Wearing a cape. Ice cream! There are a million brilliant things. Can you name them all? The hit play and international sensation Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan is a one-of-a-kind storytelling experience blending comedy with improv to tell the story of an adult learning to grapple with their own experiences of love, loss, and finding a new way forward, one brilliant thing at a time.

Second, as you know, we had planned to begin renovations to the State Theater backstage this June, making it necessary for us to move two upcoming productions into other venues. As a valued patron, we want to make sure you are informed that we have made a necessary change to our construction schedule.

What Caused This?
Two issues have contributed to this change: funding timing, and supply chain delays. In the funding world, we are relying heavily in this first phase on a few major funders, and the window to get these funds in hand has shifted slightly. Second, as you know we have experienced post-pandemic delays in many areas of the economy and industry. It is unclear at this time whether we will be able to get the steel fabrication completed and delivered by our June window.

In light of these issues, we feel it most prudent to delay construction until the Winter months of 2024, rather than risk having to make a change at the very last minute, which would be more costly and more disruptive. This allows us to begin pre-construction in the space in late 2023, facilitating a shorter construction window in 2024.

What Does This Mean for Me?
What this actually means for this year is that less will be changing: FALSETTOS and THE REVOLUTIONISTS will now take place on The State Theater stage! Subscribers and single ticket holders to either of these productions have already been informed. and we are working with the Washington Center to reseat them now. As a result, ticket sales to both productions will be offline for the next couple of weeks. Once everyone with tickets has been seated, single tickets will go back on sale via our website, in person, or by phone.

Rather than calling the Box Office with questions, please reach out directly to Olivia Burlingame, Director of Operations and Patron Services, at olivia@harlequinproductions.org. We are committed to this work and it is moving forward. At the same time, we must also remain committed to responsible stewardship of the resources our community has entrusted to us.   Warmly,

All of us at Harlequin
