The first night of March brought with it the very first performance of our much anticipated show, The Art of Racing in the Rain, adapted by Myra Platt and based on the novel by Garth Stein. The cast and crew performed for a nearly full house, and the audience’s excited energy filled the theater to the brim. Among the audience members was very special guest, Garth Stein himself. Mr. Stein graciously accepted an introduction before the show, and stayed for the champagne toast, happily signing autographs and chatting with theater patrons and fans. Harlequin’s staff, cast and crew would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Garth Stein for coming down and spending the evening with us. We appreciate his support and are very proud to help share his wonderful story with the South Sound community.

Garth Stein is the author of four novels—A Sudden Light, Raven Stole the Moon, How Evan Broke His Head and Other Secrets, and The Art of Racing in the Rain, which has sold more than 4 million copies in 35 languages and spent more than three years on the New York Times bestseller list. Garth is also the author of a full-length play, Brother Jones, and the co-founder of Seattle7Writers, a non-profit organization dedicated to energizing readers and writers and their communities by providing funding, programming, donations of free books to those in need, and generally inspiring enthusiasm for reading.

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Seattle, Garth’s ancestry is diverse: his mother, a native of Alaska, is of Tlingit Indian and Irish descent; his father, a Brooklyn native, is the child of Jewish emigrants from Austria. After spending his childhood in Seattle and then living in New York City for 18 years, Garth returned to Seattle in 2001, and lives there currently with his wife, three sons, and their dog, Comet.
